What I learned from watching Queer As Folk for the first time.
It’s true, last night was the first time I’ve watched Queer As Folk. I only watched the first 3 or 4 episodes so far and I hear it gets much better, but here is what I’ve learned so far.
- Fashion in the late 90’s was terrible
- Gay bars have always been creepy and cruisy even from the beginning of time (The late 90’s)
- If I had watched this when it aired I wouldn’t have had to learn the hard way about most things. (ie. That time I finally asked “What the fuck is a popper?”)
- If you are forward and an asshole people will have sex with you. (i.e. Bringing someone home and then taking off all of your clothes and pouring water on yourself )
- Only do drugs with your friends because they are the only ones who give a fuck about you.
- Never let your mother work at a diner in the gayborhood
- The production quality an dialogue writing in porn isn’t so bad after all.
- The L Word is better
Clear for iPhone - I NEED THIS NOW!
I really hope this works with “Reminders” in some way or synchs to a calendar, but even without… it’s just so pretty.

Everyone has been taunted or teased in school at one time or another. We all remember what it feels like to be put down or embarrassed in front of our friends and peers. Whether made fun of be for your height, weight, taste in music, sexual orientation or simply for being different it’s never a good feeling to be made fun of. James Howe’s book “The Misfits,” which depicts a group of teased kids banning together to make a change in their school, inspired the start of what we know today as GLSEN’s No Name-Calling Week. If we ban together like the group in the book, we can make a difference around bullying in schools today.
